  1. Glad to see a trombone site up and running again. I was a foundation member of the A.T.A back in the 70’s which was started by Bill Mathews. Down in our area the music system is very poor. The government has stopped the funding for the early childhood music programs and only schools that can afford it have music classes. I teach at one school on as a volunteer band tutor. I also help run the Shoalhaven city concert band, the youth concert band and I have recently taken over the Berry Silver Band to try to get it into the 21st century. Our band is struggling for low brass players, the local town band is struggling, while Ross Sadler and I are doing our best to promote our bands, we are still battling. I also am a patron of our local eisteddfod. Some of our brass and woodwind sections had to be cancelled for lack of entries and the open brass and wood wind section which has $250 first prize and a jazz scholarship of $1000 attracted 2 entries. I get my students from beginners up to a reasonable standard and then they go on to Sydney Con or Canberra. I am still playing at 84. Currently playing Bass Trom in Beauty and the Beast, and have just finished Mozart’s vesperae with the local Lydian singers and Oklahoma with the local Anglican college. Still enthusiastic about the trombone and practice every day, but the older I get the better I used to be. Say good day to Ron for me. Regards Max Croot
